New prioress at Scholastica
The Benedictine sisters of St. Scholastica Monastery in Fort Smith elected Sister Kimberly Prohaska on Monday to serve as the community’s next prioress, according to a news release.
Prohaska has served as the order’s administrator; and sub-prioress to her predecessor, Sister Maria DeAngeli. Her election comes after the vote for the monastery’s next prioress was postponed due to the nuns’ move to a new building.
Installation of Prohaska as prioress is scheduled for May 1, and she will serve a six-year term ending in 2026.

The Southern Baptist Convention’s Executive Committee has hired award-winning journalist George Schroeder as its new associate vice president for convention news, according to a report by Baptist Press.
The denomination’s report notes that Schroeder has held a number of roles with USA Today since joining the news outlet in 2012, including reporting breaking news, writing feature stories and columns. Before USA Today, Schroeder wrote for The Register-Guard in Eugene, Ore., and The Oklahoman, after starting his career at the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette, where he was on staff from 1991-99.
The Rev. Ronnie Floyd, committee president and pastor emeritus of Cross Church in Northwest Arkansas, also announced the news on Twitter last week.
“George [Schroeder] is an award-winning journalist and highly regarded by his peers, truly a consummate professional in real-time news,” Floyd said. “We are grateful God has called him to be with us [in the committee].”
