NWA fishing report

Beaver Lake

Walleye are on the move up the rivers.

James Whittle at Hook, Line and Sinker in Rogers said walleye are biting well on the White River below Beaver Dam and the Kings River arm of Table Rock Lake. Bass minnows are the best bait. Jerk baits are the top lure.

The walleye run at Beaver Lake up the White and War Eagle tributaries is just starting, Whittle said.

Striped bass are biting well around the islands north of the Arkansas 12 bridge. The Prairie Creek area and Avoca Hollow are good areas to try. Shad or brood minnows are the best bait.

For black bass, try Alabama rigs, jerk baits, crank baits or jig and pigs. Try for crappie with minnows or jigs around brush 20 to 25 feet deep.

Beaver tailwater

Lisa Mullins at Beaver Dam Store said walleye are making their way up the White River from Table Rock Lake. Minnows or jigs are both working.

For trout, try Power Bait in bright colors. Tip the bait with a waxworm for best results. Nightcrawlers or worms are good to use.

The top lures are small spoons. Good colors are gold and silver or red and gold. Size 7 countdown Rapalas are good to use.

Fly fishing has been slow in the morning. Try size 16 midges in copper, black and blue dun.

Lake Fayetteville

David Powell at the lake office said crappie jigs are the universal lure these days. Catfish, black bass and crappie are all biting crappie jigs. Try tipping the jig with a minnow for even better results.

Lake Sequoyah

Mike Carver at the lake office reports little fishing activity. He recommends trying for black bass with plastic worms. Fish them slow. Troll crank baits for crappie 8 feet deep. Use cut shad for catfish.

Bella Vista

Nick Gann at Hook, Line and Sinker in Bella Vista recommends fishing for black bass at all Bella Vista lakes with Alabama rigs or small swim baits. Fish for trout at Lake Brittany with Power Bait or small spoons.

Swepco Lake

Kenny Stroud in Siloam Springs said black bass fishing is good with plastic worms rigged any style. Try jerk baits or spinner baits along points.

Crystal, Siloam Springs lakes

Stroud recommends fishing for crappie with minnows 10-12 feet deep.

Illinois River

Use jig and pigs or jerk baits in deep pools to catch black bass, Stroud suggests.

Eastern Oklahoma

Stroud recommends fishing at Lake Eucha for crappie with minnows or jigs 15 to 20 feet deep around brush. Black and chartreuse are good colors.

Table Rock Lake

Focused Fishing guide service reports black bass are biting swim baits and Alabama rigs 12 to 15 feet deep. Steep banks with isolated timber are good spots. Rocky points are also good.

Try jerk baits in shad colors on windy days around isolated timber. A jig and pig is good to use. Hop it down ledges 18 to 20 feet deep.
