EL DORADO -- Rapid progress is being made on the Constantine Refining Company's well which is being drilled two miles southwest of El Dorado. The well is down more than 900 feet. Considerable activity was noted the past week in the development of the local fields. The roads leading to the wells probably will be in good condition in a short time, which will enable the moving of heavy machinery and materials to other locations, where drilling operations will be started soon.

• The board of the Pulaski County Special School District paused its regular meeting Monday night to discuss in private the finalists for the superintendent's job. Some board members had questions about information submitted by the three outside candidates. After a two-hour executive session, the board returned and voted unanimously to meet Wednesday in private for a conference call with Nebraska-based search firm McPherson and Jacobson about results from standardized tests at schools the candidates supervised. The board tried to reach the consultants via telephone Monday night but couldn't get through, officials said. Board Secretary Gwen Williams said after the meeting that one of the issues involves whether all of the test data submitted was valid. She said the issue could influence at least one board member's vote.
