Perrion Hurd

Where I live: I have lived and worked in the South Main/Quapaw area of Little Rock since 2011, and I love it here. My wife, Gayle, and I enjoy the community vibe here.

Occupation: I am a self-taught fine artist, illustrator and printmaker. I am the owner and operator of HurdWiredStudios LLC, based here in Little Rock. I have been working on my art for a little over 25 years.

My favorite space is: Yella Dog Press at The Bodark Creative.

Why? I love working here. There is an awesome collaborative energy and spirit of community and friendship. Since November 2018, Kate and Jess Askew have graciously opened their space up to me to come and work at my own schedule. In the print shop, Kate showed me how to produce linoleum block prints on two of the Vandercook 4 letterpress machines here. Upstairs where I share a space with artist and jeweler Sarah Henry, I am producing large scale commissioned painted banners for Mosaic Templars Cultural Center for an exhibition titled "Wonders and Signs."

If I could make one change to improve this space: I would love to see more artists come to visit and talk with Kate about taking art classes, learning about printmaking and joining in the collaboration that we have sparked here.
