Man hit and killed while crossing the street in Rogers

A Rogers man was killed Thursday while attempting cross South Eighth Street, according to Keith Foster, a spokesman for the Rogers Police Department.

Foster said Norman Akins, 64, was crossing the street at 8:42 p.m Thursday in the 1900 block of Eighth Street when he hit by a 2017 Toyota Tacoma.

Akins died at the scene, Foster said.

Rigoberto Resinos, 68, told police he was driving south in the outside lane of South Eighth Street near the intersection with West Beacon Circle Drive when he saw Akins crossing the road in front of his vechicle, according to a fatal summary report from the Arkansas State Police.

Resinos said he could not stop his vehicle in time before striking Akins with the front of his vehicle, according to the report

Akins was not at a crosswalk or near the corner of an intersection at the time of the collision, according to the report.
