The Ivy Center for Education Inc. will host free virtual ACT Boot Camps from 10 a.m. to noon Dec. 5 and Dec. 19. Other sessions will be held in January and February. The boot camps are for students in seventh through 12th grades in Jefferson County.

The boot camps are funded through a grant from the Pine Bluff Area Community Foundation. Understanding that ACT scores are critical to students earning college admissions and scholarships, the Ivy Center began its ACT Prep Workshops Program in 2012, according to a news release.

Students who plan to attend the ACT Boot Camps may register by sending an email with their name and email address to [email protected] or to [email protected] . They will receive an email with detailed information on how to join the boot camp.

The boot camp facilitators will be Charity Smith, principal associate for education at Fetterman and Associates and founder of the Arkansas College Prep Academy, and staff.

Smith has trained students across the state to improve their ACT scores. She served as the president of the Arkansas ACT Council and a national ACT facilitator for states implementing Universal ACT, according to the release.

She helped Arkansas educators draft the Universal ACT which allows grade 10 or 11 students to take the ACT test free. Smith earned her doctoral degree from the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville with post-doctoral certifications from Harvard University and Stanford University, according to the release.

"We are delighted to host these very important virtual ACT Boot Camps and look forward to our scholars being successful," said Mattie Collins, president of the Ivy Center.

Patricia Berry is the Ivy Center executive director.

"The Ivy Center will continue hosting virtual workshops to help our scholars excel academically," Berry said.
