Revised calendar given board's OK

The North Little Rock School District School Board on Thursday unanimously approved a revised calendar for the coming school year that gives teachers a full week off for Thanksgiving break.

The calendar was tabled in July because teachers were concerned about having only two days off for Thanksgiving. School officials said they found a way to give teachers the week off after moving some days around that included parent/teacher conferences when the district would be closed.

Gunn Rhodes' new role involves work with the 14 mayors on Metroplan's Small Cities Council to help them realize their goals through community planning and design.

Metroplan is the federally designated Metropolitan Planning Organization for Central Arkansas.

Kindergartners' school start shifts

The North Little Rock School District announced Friday changes to the first day of school for kindergarten students.

The first day of school for all such students, both virtual and in-person, will be Aug. 27 at 9 a.m., a news release said.

Because of safety guidelines, parents can walk students only as far as the main entrance of the school. Staff members will then guide students to their classrooms.
