Charities adapt fundraisers

The Cancer Challenge

6-8 times vary -- The three-day, multi-event Cancer Challenge will lead off today Aug. 6 with a golf tournament, trap shoot practice and an adult tennis and pickleball outdoor happy hour. The annual benefit for Northwest Arkansas charities also will include golf, tennis, pickleball and trap shoot tournament Aug. 7-8. Tournament venues will include Highlands Gun Range in Gravette, Kingsdale Tennis Center and Golf Course in Bella Vista. The benefit's 10K, 5K run and 1-mile walk will be virtual this year. Organizers say registered run/walk participants can pick up their medal, goody bag, hat and T-shirt from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 6-7 at Kingswood. Proceeds from the Cancer Challenge stay in Northwest Arkansas, and the group has awarded some $12.8 million to local cancer services and programs since its founding in 1993. Grant recipients have included Arkansas Children's Hospital Northwest, Circle of Life Hospice, Community Clinic, Hope Cancer Resources, Mercy Health Foundation of Northwest Arkansas, Oncology Supportive Services and Washington Regional Cancer Support Home. AIM for Advocacy Online Auction and Fundraiser

Restoration Village

14 8 a.m.-Aug. 21 midnight -- The annual in-person "Aim for Advocacy" benefit for Restoration Village will be an online fundraiser due to pandemic and social distancing guidelines, organizers say. The group's mission is to "restore the lives of women and women with children in crisis through safe shelter and life-changing services while promoting stability, dignity and self-reliance." Sheep Dog Impact Assistance

15 6:30-9 p.m. -- Sheep Dog Impact Assistance will mark its 10th anniversary with an outdoor celebration at Village on the Creeks in Rogers that will include a picnic-style dinner beginning at 5 p.m. Organizers say, "This event will be a family-friendly evening with music, live and silent auctions, fun and fireworks to celebrate SDIA's 10 years of helping Veterans and First Responders 'Get Off The Couch.'" The program will feature guest speakers Sgt. Sergio Trejo, U.S. Army (Ret.), Purple Heart recipient and founder of Tre Charters LLC.; and Honorary Chairman Maj. Kendrick Fincher Hydration for Life

17 8 a.m.-5 p.m. -- The 18-hole four-person scramble golf tournament to mark August as Heat Stroke Awareness month will be played at Springdale Country Club. The foundation's mission is to "promote proper hydration and prevent heat illness through education programs in schools, with athletes and supporting activities." Disc Golf for the Kids!

Northwest Arkansas Children's Shelter

22 10 a.m.-2 p.m. -- The Northwest Arkansas Children's Shelter in Bentonville will play host to the inaugural Disc Golf for the Kids! benefit tournament. The fundraiser will have a flex start and include one round of 18 holes, lunch and prizes. The Northwest Arkansas Children's Shelter is a private, nonprofit organization offering 24-hour residential care for children and teens who are victims of abuse or neglect. Founded in 1993 with five girls as residents, the 48-bed shelter serves some 500 children annually. Residents may stay up to 45 days in a six-month period until returning to their families or being placed in foster care. Registration for the tournament is $50. Ronald McDonald House Charities of Arkoma

24 7 a.m.-4 p.m. -- The 16th annual Golf 4 a Cause charity golf tournament to benefit Ronald McDonald House Charities of Arkoma will be played at Pinnacle Country Club in Rogers. Charity leaders say, "This annual golf tournament serves as the main fundraiser for our four major programs (soon to be five, with the addition of a new Ronald McDonald House in Fort Smith!): a Ronald McDonald House at Washington Regional in Fayetteville, Ronald McDonald Family Rooms at Mercy NWA in Rogers and Mercy Fort Smith, and the Ronald McDonald Care Mobile, a mobile dental clinic providing under-served children comprehensive dental care in a school-based setting." Ozark Guidance

24 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. -- The 25th annual Reinert Cup Classic to benefit Ozark Guidance will be played at Springdale Country Club. The four-person scramble fundraiser will include grab-and-go breakfast or lunch, on-course refreshments and a gift. Team registration is $800. Organizers say proceeds from the golf outing will "benefit the Ozark Guidance Center Foundation to help save and change lives across Northwest and North-Central Arkansas. For 50 years,Ozark Guidance has been a locally developed, community based, nonprofit organization. We continue to provide comprehensive behavioral health services annually for approximately 21,500 adults and children living in Northwest and North-Central Arkansas." Virtual Out of the Box Luncheon

Girls on the Run of Northwest Arkansas

28 noon -- The Virtual Out of the Box Luncheon to benefit Girls on the Run of Northwest Arkansas will be a "Fireside Chat with Kath McClay," Sam's Club president and chief executive officer. GOTR's mission reads, "We inspire girls to be joyful, healthy and confident using a fun, experience-based curriculum which creatively integrates running." Registration for the virtual luncheon is $35 and includes a mailed package of swag. Inspiration Boxes are available for $20 and may be picked up Aug. 27-28 at the GOTR office in Bentonville.
