Man, 61, injured when dogs attack

HOPE -- The Hempstead County sheriff's office is investigating a dog attack that left a 61-year-old man seriously injured.

Hempstead County deputies were dispatched at 6:20 p.m. Friday to the 800 block of Arkansas 73 about a man injured from a dog bite, according to information from the Hempstead County sheriff's office.

Upon arrival, deputies discovered a man lying in the ditch suffering from numerous dog bites to his body. A person who had been walking by said he had observed what appeared to be two pit bulls attacking the man. A third man was able to pull the dogs off the victim, according to the sheriff's office.

The victim, identified as Charles Edward Nash, 61, was treated by Pafford EMS on scene and airlifted to UAMS in Little Rock for treatment of his injuries. The dogs were seized by Hope Animal Control at the request of the deputies and taken to the Hope Animal Shelter.

Hempstead County Investigator Jeremy McBride traveled to UAMS on Saturday to interview the victim. The victim stated he was walking along the eastbound shoulder of Arkansas 73 when the two dogs came from behind a mobile home and attacked him. Nash suffered wounds to his arms, torso, ear and other parts of his body.

Hempstead County sheriff's office deputies have identified the owner of the dogs and the investigation is ongoing.
