SPRINGDALE -- School District Superintendent Jim Rollins announced Friday administrators have plans for what he called an "alternative graduation experience" for seniors this spring.

Rollins, speaking in a video the School District posted online, said he wouldn't get into the proposal's specifics, adding he would leave that to building principals to release within the next couple of days.

He didn't give an exact date, but said the alternative graduation is planned for the end of May.

"Every senior will be recognized, every senior's accomplishments will be acknowledged," Rollins said. "The love and appreciation the teachers and school board members and administrators have for these kids will be evident throughout this experience."

Principals have worked with high school seniors and their parents in developing the proposal, he said.

Graduation ceremonies for Springdale's four high schools were scheduled for mid-May. The covid-19 pandemic has forced high schools across the nation to postpone or cancel graduation ceremonies because of social distancing rules set by government officials.
