LOWELL -- The city canceled the annual Mudtown Days festival set for June 12 and 13 to help prevent the spread of covid-19, according to a statement Thursday from the city.

The announcement cited the state's prohibition on gatherings of more than 10 people. The directive specifically mentions festivals as gatherings subject to the prohibition.

The annual festival was scheduled to have a fishing derby, car show and concerts, among other attractions.

"Together, we will get through this crisis and we can look forward to brighter days ahead with a great event for Mudtown Days 2021," according to the statement.
