ENTERTAINMENT NOTES: Murry's stages 'Sex, Please, We're Sixty'; Block gets 'jazzy' in the park

Three regular female guests at a successful bed-and-breakfast turn the tables on the silver-tongued male next-door neighbor in Sex Please, We're Sixty by Michael and Susan Parker, Tuesday-Oct. 19 at Murry's Dinner Playhouse, 6323 Colonel Glenn Road, Little Rock. Doors and the buffet open 90 minutes before showtime — 7:30 p.m. Tuesday-Saturday, 12:45 p.m. and 6:45 p.m. Sunday, with 12:45 p.m. matinees only on Wednesdays through Oct. 9. Jazz in the Park

Rodney Block headlines this week's Jazz in the Park, 6 p.m. Wednesday at the History Pavilion in Little Rock's Riverfront Park, just west of the First Security Amphitheater (closest entry point is Ottenheimer Drive off President Clinton Avenue). Sponsors are Little Rock Convention and Visitors Bureau and Art Porter Music Education Inc. Admission is free. In case of rain, the performance moves to the West Pavilion behind the Ottenheimer Market Hall. Lawn chairs and blankets are welcome, and there is some seating in the natural stone amphitheater at the History Pavilion. Beer, wine, soft drinks and water will be sold (no coolers are allowed.); a portion of the proceeds from the sale of Jazz in the Park koozies benefits APME. Bluegrass Monday

The Little Roy and Lizzy Show — bluegrass duo Little Roy Lewis and Lizzy Long, with guitarist Tyler Biddix, mandolinist Matthew Songmaker and bassist Terry Poirier — performs at 7 p.m. Monday at the Collins Theatre, 120 W. Emerson St., Paragould, part of Jonesboro public radio station KASU-FM, 91.9's Bluegrass Monday concert series. 'Mid Mod Arkansas'

Preserve Arkansas' "Mid Mod Arkansas" tour, focusing on Arkansas' Mid-Century Modern architecture, visits Jonesboro on Friday-Saturday. The event includes:

• A tour and reception, 5:30-7 p.m. Friday at the Alan G. Patteson House, 2801 Harrisburg Road (designed in 1962 by Little Rock architect F. Eugene Withrow); park at Fergus Orthodontics, 2812 Harrisburg Road, and board a shuttle to the Patteson House.

• 1-3:30 p.m. Saturday, guided tours and refreshments at the Fuller-Shannon and Maddox houses, 1408 and 1407 Twin Oaks Ave., both designed by Jonesboro firms. On-street parking is available.

Artspace survey

A public launch party, 5:30-7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Center for Humanities and Arts, University of Arkansas-Pulaski Technical College Main Campus, 3000 W. Scenic Drive, North Little Rock, kicks off nonprofit arts developer Artspace's six-week online survey, through Nov. 5 at ArtspaceRocks.org. The survey is to determine inexpensive space needs for area artists/creators/makers, arts organizations and creative businesses. 'House in Mourning'

"A House in Mourning," an exploration of 19th century mourning customs, goes on display Saturday in the Rogers Historical Museum's Hawkins House, 322 S. Second St., Rogers. Name a living treasure

Nov. 8 is the deadline to submit nominations to the Arkansas Arts Council for its 2020 Arkansas Living Treasure Award, which recognizes an Arkansas artist who excels in the creation of a traditional craft and who preserves and advances his or her craft through community outreach and by teaching others.

Eligible artists must live in Arkansas and work in a traditional craft form, such as basket weaving, glass blowing, broom making or leather working. Previous honorees include a fiddle maker, quilter, bladesmith and wood carver. Eligibility requirements and a nomination form are available at tinyurl.com/y5nwslvp. School Series

Lightwire Theater opens East Arkansas Community College's 2019-20 School Series with The Ugly Duckling, the classic tale framed in electro-luminescent wire, 10 a.m. Oct. 29 in the college's Fine Arts Center, 1700 Newcastle Road, Forrest City.

At 10 a.m. Feb. 21, ArtsPower National Touring Theatre stages on Dog Loves Books, based on Louise Yates' best-seller about a canine that opens his own bookstore and acts out stories for his customers.

2-play auditions

The Weekend Theater, 1001 W. Seventh St., Little Rock will hold auditions, 5 p.m. Saturday and Sept. 29, for two plays:

• Lorraine Hansberry's A Raisin in the Sun. Director Danette Scott Perry is casting actors to play a black family with one white actor, via cold readings from the script. Production dates are Dec. 5-21; rehearsals start Oct. 12. For more information, email [email protected].

Good Kids by Naomi Iizuka. For this exploration of a casual sexual encounter gone wrong and its very public aftermath, director Andrea McDaniel is casting, via cold reads, "a diverse cast of actors 16 and older."
