STRUTTING ON THE CATWALK

Surviving and profiling to battle breast cancer

More than 40 breast cancer survivors walked down a runway sporting the latest fashions from area clothing stores on Sept. 5 at the Metroplex. They were part of Runway for the Cure, a fundraiser for Susan G. Komen Arkansas.

Around 900 guests enjoyed a lunch of grilled chicken on a bed of salad with cilantro-lime vinaigrette, black beans, vegetables and Monterey jack cheese. Chocolate cake was dessert. Local firefighters sold raffle tickets and winners were drawn at the beginning of the program by hosts Lisa Fischer and Marlisa Goldsmith with the help of Michael Davenport Brand.

Seventy-five percent of money raised at the event will be used in Arkansas for mammograms, research, education and treatment assistance including wigs, transportation, prescriptions and child care. The other 25% will be used for research.
