CLASS 5A

Clarksville 15, Ozark 12

Clarksville (3-0) came up with two huge fourth-down stops in the fourth quarter to close its nonconference slate with a signature win Friday night.

The Panthers stopped Ozark inside the 20-yard line twice late in the game and used a time-consuming drive to run off more than 5 minutes of the fourth-quarter clock to give coach Khris Buckner his biggest win in four seasons at Clarksville.

"Our kids are playing with so much confidence right now," Buckner said. "Our motto this season has been don't hope to win, expect to win and the kids have really bought into that. To hold a team like Ozark, an explosive team, to 12 points, I can't say enough about our kids."

Clarksville got down early 6-0, but on the extra point, Michael Powell blocked the attempt and that seemed to spark the Panthers, Buckner said.

Clarksville took a 7-6 lead when Miles Castleman hit Jamie White down the sideline for 42 yards, setting up Bryce Buckner's 1-yard touchdown run. Ozark scored on its opening possession of the second half, but the Panthers battled back with White taking a counter 35 yards for the go-ahead score. After Ozark was whistled for being offside on the extra point, Clarksville went for two and Nicholas Buckner scored for a 15-12 lead.
