BENTONVILLE -- Mike McKenzie has announced he will seek a fourth term on the Benton County Quorum Court.

McKenzie, 69, represents District 1, which is in the northeast corner of the county and includes a large portion of the Beaver Lake area.

McKenzie is a Republican who ran unopposed in 2018. Fifteen Republicans comprise the Quorum Court.

"The most important issue for my district continues to be maintaining and upgrading county roads," he said. "We have repaved some of the key connector roads in the past few years and need to continue work on other roads."

The county must address jail and court needs, he said.

"We also need to expand the county's court facilities without raising taxes and find the most efficient way to address space needs in the county jail," he said.

The Quorum Court has given County Judge Barry Moehring the OK for design work on a new jail pod and a downtown courts facility.

Justices of the peace serve two-year terms. The primary election is March 3, 2020, and the general election is Nov. 3, 2020.

Quorum Court members are paid $237 for each Committee of the Whole meeting and Quorum Court meeting they attend, and $148 for each meeting of another committee they serve on, according to the county.
