Blood center

seeks donors

Community Blood Center of the Ozarks, the area's exclusive provider of blood products to over 40 area hospitals, is experiencing a critical shortage of all type O blood products. Donations are needed immediately to ensure that adequate reserve levels are maintained.

Help to save lives by giving blood at these upcoming blood drives:

Fayetteville: 1-4 p.m. Oct. 16, APAC Central, Inc., 755 E. Millsap Road.

Red Cross

needs blood

During Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October, the American Red Cross urges eligible donors to give blood or platelets to provide hope and healing to patients fighting cancer.

Breast cancer is the second most common cancer in women, and more than 268,000 women are expected to be diagnosed with breast cancer this year.

Donors of all blood types, especially platelet donors and those with type O blood, are needed to ensure a stable supply for cancer patients and others this fall.

As a thank-you, those who come to give blood or platelets during the month of October will automatically be entered for a chance to win one of five $500 gift cards redeemable at hundreds of merchants, courtesy of Tango Card.

Bulldozer Health

holds open house

Bulldozer Health will host an open house from 1 to 6 p.m. Oct. 19 at 2243 N. College Ave. in Fayetteville.

The open house will feature alternative health providers from the Bulldozer Health Network including Thrive Wellness, NWA Natural Living, Mary Will Nourish, Working Class PT, The Human Experience, Sparkansas and more.

Allee Walker will also provide a relaxing group biofield tuning session at 2 p.m. and Joy Caffrey of Joyful Healing Center will provide a workshop at 3 p.m. about letting go of perfection for a fee. The Culture Café will be selling food. Arkansans for Compassionate Care will be present so that you can review and sign both their adult cannabis use and expungment of criminal records petitions. A silent auction with items from the alternative health providers and vendors will be available as a fundraiser for the organization.

There will be music and other activities.

UAFS slates

family days

The University of Arkansas at Fort Smith's annual Family Weekend will take place Oct. 25-26, featuring a welcome reception, lip sync battle, chili cook-off and two volleyball games. The weekend will also represent the culmination of UAFS Volunteer Week and UAFS Greek Week with numerous on-campus and community-focused activities.

All Family Weekend events are free and open to the public in hopes of allowing future students, parents and community members a chance to experience the UAFS campus.
