Orchids

The Orchid Society of the Ozarks will meet at 1:30 p.m. Oct. 20 at Northwest Technical Institute, 709 S. Old Missouri Road in Springdale. Kristen Uthus of New World Orchids in Manchester, Mich., will be the educational speaker and will bring small plants for sale. Robert Marsh will speak on the genus Barkeria at the Nov. 17 meeting.

The objective of the society is to stimulate interest in orchids and their culture. Monthly judging displays often include 30 to 40 blooming plants, while monthly raffles offer affordable orchids and supplies for new and experienced growers.

Democrats

Legion 341

Bella Vista's American Legion Post 341's general membership meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 14 at the post's meeting hall, 1889 Bella Vista Way in Bella Vista.

Computers

The Bella Vista Computer Club will hold a general meeting at 7 p.m. Oct. 14 in Room 1001 on the lower level of the Highlands Crossing Center, 1801 Forest Hills Blvd. in Bella Vista. The program will be "Do You Need a MeSH WiFi Router?" Discussion will consider how the latest WiFi routers can address WiFi reception problems. Club meetings are free and open to the public. Different handouts giving general information and computer tips are available at each monthly meeting.

The yearly membership is $25 for the first member in a household and $10 for each additional member in the same household. Benefits of club membership include free classes on computer topics selected by the club, free remote online support at other times, and free help for any computerized device at twice-monthly open house help clinic sessions, held from 9 a.m. to noon on the first Saturday and the third Wednesday of each month. Advance signup is required to attend classes.

The currently scheduled classes for are "Computer Security for Regular People: Part 2" presented by Justin Sell, owner of Bella Vista Computer Services, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Oct. 15; "Slow PC? Let's Upgrade or Buy New" presented by Pete Opland of BVCC, from 9 to 11 a.m. Oct. 22; "Why, When and How to Backup Your C Drive," by Opland, from 9 to 11 a.m. Oct. 29; and "Computer Security for Regular People," presented by Sell, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Nov. 19.

BVCC also has a genealogy special interest group that will meet at 10 a.m. Oct. 19.

Stitched

Stitched With Love will meet at 9:30 a.m. Oct. 15 at Mount Vernon Presbyterian Church, 1300 N. Davis St. in Pea Ridge. The club is a nonprofit organization formed for the purpose of sewing quilts, hats and pillows for children at Arkansas Children's Hospital and meets the third Tuesday of each month. Bring completed quilts and batting scraps to stuff pillows, and bring scissors to cut batting for new kits. New members are welcome.

DAR

The Daughters of the American Revolution will meet at 1 p.m. Oct. 15 in the community room at the Fort Smith Public Library, 302 Rogers Ave. in Fort Smith. The program will be on the national defense presented by Lori Jarrett.

Democrats

The Senior Democrats of Northwest Arkansas will meet at noon Oct. 15 at the Western Sizzlin' in Springdale. Lunch begins at 11:30 p.m. The guest speaker will be Art Hobson, who will be addressing "Nuclear Weapons and War with Iran." Hobson wrote the book Physics: Concepts & Connections for his physics classes at the University of Arkansas. This text is still used at more than 100 universities.

The Benton County Republican Women's Club will meet at noon Oct. 15 at Pleasant Crossing Golden Corral in Rogers. Networking begins at 11:30 a.m.

Jonathan Barnett will be the featured speaker. He will share the Republican plan of action from his perspective as Republican National Committeeman.

Kiwanis

The Rogers Noon Kiwanis Club will meet at 11:30 a.m. Oct. 16 at Johnny Carino's, 535 N. 46th St. in Rogers. The club meets each Wednesday and is offering poinsettias for sale through Nov. 15. The plants are $10 for 6 1/2-inch, $20 for 8-inch and $30 for 10-inch.

The Ozark Mountains Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution, will meet at 11 a.m. Oct. 17 at Simmons Bank, 33075 W. New Hope Road in Rogers. Priscilla Shoulders will present the program, "Stuff the Purse." Anyone interested in joining DAR is welcome.
