NWA Letters to the Editor: VFW members support their local communities

VFW members support their local communities

Veterans of Foreign Wars organizations are made up of folks who have served their country honorably and fought in wars through the years. We are brothers and sisters who serve our communities in very unique ways.

For example, the poppy drives that people see periodically are used to support our brother veterans who are in need of housing or food (or in other words, impoverished). We also have honor guards who provide honors for our deceased brethren. These people are all volunteers, and serve without any compensation. Military honors for our fallen heroes is provided without cost to the families of the departed. Our Rogers VFW Post 3031 has such an honor guard and generally participates on over 100 funerals each year. We also provide support for the Veterans Home in Fayetteville and generate other programs each year designed to promote patriotism among our young people. We participate in Memorial Day and Veterans Day activities, in addition to visiting some of our local schools.

Hopefully our local communities are proud of those who have served this country at the call of our elected leaders. We are proud citizens of our communities and seek to serve.

Where are letter writers of conservative views?

I am constantly amazed at the number of letters from President Trump "haters" that you print every day. The endless liberal drivel is maddening. Trump carried Arkansas by a wide margin in 2016 and will better that margin in 2020. Where are all the conservatives? I guess us deplorables are too busy clinging to our Bibles and guns to take time to write a letter to Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette.

Maybe if you print this letter, some of the people who pay attention to the true political climate in this country might possibly write you one. At least some of the liberals might start thinking for themselves instead of regurgitating the "fake news " they take as gospel. Some could find it quite refreshing.

Hear someone calling? Might be 'Mother Earth'

If you haven't noticed, we're being evicted. Mother Earth is telling us to get the hell out. We're destroying the planet with our selfish pursuits. And, contrary to all the sci-fi hoopla and fanfare, your grandkids will not be happily propagating on Mars or pick-your-planet.

We need to stop the madness universally, if we wish to succeed. As the Native Americans say: "We do not inherit the Earth from our ancestors. We borrow it from our children."

A few lasting thoughts in wake of biker rally

Four nights of little sleep. Fossil-fueled thunder of dino-sauring consumption. A lasting or last hurrah? Is that new silence ringing in our ears or just damaged hearing? Perhaps such noise is to mask the flatulence from so much barbecue. Townsfolk get the blues.

Fayetteville, a once noble, dignified and cultured lady of a city, now lifts its skirts at the flash of a dollar. What to do about the madness. Let us ask the trees.

Oops! Where did they go?
