TO EVERYTHING THERE IS A SEASON

Turn, turn, turn

Year’s progression exemplified at Symphony’s Opus

The four seasons -- spring, summer, autumn and winter -- were celebrated in decor and food at Opus XXXV on Nov. 2 at the Marriott Hotel.

Event co-chairmen Martha and Bob Snider selected the theme. "We wanted to celebrate arts through the seasons," she said during the event. The annual extravaganza benefits the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra.

Tables in the ballroom held elaborate floral displays by Tanarah Luxe Floral representing each of the seasons. Landscape photography depicting the seasons was shown on big screens.

The four-course dinner also reflected the theme. The first course -- spring -- featured scallops with organic peas and carrots. The second course -- summer -- was an heirloom tomato salad with olive oil cake. The main course -- autumn -- was a pork chop with greens and sweet potato. Finishing it off -- winter -- was an elaborate treat filled with chocolate, raspberry sauce, pistachio cream and more.

Each course was paired with wines provided by Southern Glazer's Wine & Spirits.

Alan Sun, a sophomore at Conway High School, was presented with the 2019 Karen and John Flake Arkansas Symphony Orchestra Outstanding Member Scholarship Award. The scholarship allows Sun to attend a summer music camp of his choosing.

During the live auction, guests bid on a number of interesting trips including an Ireland golf adventure for two ($5,500); a Churchill Downs VIP experience for two ($3,000); and an all-inclusive Metropolitan Opera extravaganza ($5,500).

Jewelry from Sissy's Log Cabin ($10,000) topped the bidding.
