Newcomers

Fayetteville Newcomers Club will meet at 9:30 a.m. Nov. 11 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 2925 N. Old Missouri Road in Fayetteville.

This month's speaker is J.B. Portillo, producer with the Bella Vista Community TV Station, a Master Gardener and a Master Naturalist, among many other things. She also considers herself a professional volunteer in Northwest Arkansas, conducting guided tours for Peel Mansion, Compton Gardens and Crystal Bridges.

Newcomers to the area as well as established residents are invited to attend.

Democrats

The Democratic Party of Benton County will meet at 6 p.m. Nov. 11 at Mimi's Cafe, 2105 S. Promenade Blvd. in Rogers. The business meeting starts at 6:30 p.m.

Computers

The Bella Vista Computer Club will hold a general meeting at 7 p.m. Nov. 11 in Room 1001 on the lower level of the Highlands Crossing Center, 1801 Forest Hills Blvd. in Bella Vista. The program will be "Going Paperless," a presentation discussing converting home records from paper to digital format. Club meetings are free and open to the public. Different handouts giving general information and computer tips are available at each monthly meeting.

The currently scheduled classes are "Using Windows 10," from 9 am. to noon Nov. 13 with Joel Ewing, club president; "Slow PC? Let's Upgrade or Buy New," 9 to 11 a.m. Nov. 19; "Computer Security for Regular People: Part 2," 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Nov. 19, presented by Justin Sell, owner of Bella Vista Computer Services; "Why, When and How to Backup Your C Drive," 9 to 11 a.m. Nov. 21 with Pete Opland.

Open house help clinic sessions are held from 9 a.m. to noon on the first Saturday and the third Wednesday of each month in the club's training center, Suite 208, and are a free service for club members.

A Genealogy Special Interest Group will meet at 10 a.m. Nov. 16.

Bella Vista's American Legion Post 341 will meet at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 11 at the Post's meeting hall, 1889 Bella Vista Way in Bella Vista.

Archeologists

The Ko-ko-ci Chapter of the Arkansas Archeological Society will meet at 7 p.m. Nov. 13 at the Washington County Extension Office, 2536 N. McConnell Ave. in Fayetteville.

Guest speaker Bobby Braly will present "Historic Preservation in Cane Hill, Arkansas." Founded in 1827, Cane Hill was a thriving community centered on agriculture, industry, religion and education. This talk will provide an overview of Cane Hill's history and preservation efforts.

Up In Arms

The Up In Arms quilt guild will meet at 1 p.m. Nov. 13 at Golden Corral in Rogers, 2605 Pleasant Crossing Drive in Rogers.

The group has an ongoing challenge of creating a self-portrait collage. At this meeting, members should have narrowed down their focus of the subject matter and collecting and preparing fabrics. Goals set last January will be discussed to see what can be finished before 2020 and 2020 goals will be considered. Bring show and tell, especially anything Christmas related. Visitors are welcome.

Omni Center

The Omni Center for Peace, Justice and Ecology will hold its monthly vegetarian/vegan potluck at 6 p.m. Nov. 13 at the center, 3274 Lee Ave. in Fayetteville. There will be a viewing of the film Forks Over Knives, which explains the advantages of a plant-based diet over meat. Kathleen Paulson, M.D., and George Paulson will be moderators.

Writers

The Village Lake Writers and Poets will meet from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Nov. 13 at the Artist Retreat Center in Bella Vista.

VFW 2952

The VFW Post 2952 Springdale/Fayetteville will meet at 7 p.m. Nov. 14 at St. Thomas Episcopal Church, 2898 S. 48th St. in Springdale. A meal will be served at 6 p.m.

This is open to all combat veterans. This month there will be a presentation on programs for veterans and homeless veterans in need for the upcoming holiday season.

Nature

The Flower, Garden and Nature Society of Northwest Arkansas will meet at 10 a.m. Nov. 16 at Northwest Technical Institute student center, 709 S. Old Missouri Road in Springdale. Special guest will be Don Bennett, founder of Tri Cycle Farms, a nonprofit organization that serves food-insecure people in the community. Learn about the 2-acre farm in Fayetteville that supplies a bountiful crop of vegetables created by hard work of many dedicated volunteers.

Orchids

Orchid Society of the Ozarks will meet at 1:30 p.m. Nov. 17 at Northwest Technical Institute, 709 S. Old Missouri Road in Springdale. Robert Marsh will speak on the genus Barkeria, a small, easy to grow and long blooming species, and will offer quality plants for sale.

The Orchid Society meets on the third Sunday of each month.

The objective of the society is to stimulate interest in orchids and their culture. Monthly judging displays often include 30 to 40 blooming plants, while monthly raffles offer affordable orchids and supplies for new and experienced growers.

Writers' Colony

The Writers' Colony at Dairy Hollow will hold a "Poetluck" supper at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 21 at 515 Spring St. in Eureka Springs. The featured reader will be writer-in-residence Sherri C. Perry, who will be reading from her book, Letters to Cadence: Musings of a Modern Grandmother, released in October 2016.
