SPRINGDALE -- Springdale Police Department officers responded to a report of shots being fired about 6:30 p.m. Friday in the area of Thomas Boulevard and Jill Circle.

People in the area of the shooting told officers a dark passenger car and a white Dodge Charger stopped at the intersection of Thomas and Jill before the occupants of the two cars began shooting at each other, according to a department press release. The cars left the area driving north on Thomas toward Backus Avenue following the incident.

Officers located several shell casings in the area, the release said, but didn't identify anyone who was injured in the shooting or houses that had been hit by gunfire.

The investigation is ongoing, according to the press release.
