BIG DAY FOR THE MARKET

Game winners lauded by Walmart president

Walmart President and Chief Executive Officer Doug McMillon was the keynote speaker May 13 at a lunch for winners of the Stock Market Game at the Statehouse Convention Center.

About 15,0000 students from around the state participated in the national program that has teams of students investing a virtual $100,000 in stocks, bonds and mutual funds. Economics Arkansas is the facilitator of the program in the state.

McMillon was introduced by Ray Hobbs, president of Economics Arkansas and a former supervisor of McMillon at Walmart. The Walmart CEO talked about several principles he learned while working under Hobbs including that "you're responsible for everything. Take ownership of the issue and fix it. That has served me well my entire career."

Three student teams were recognized for being overall winners in the Stock Market Game. They were Waldron Middle School, Springdale's Lakeside Junior High School and Little Rock Christian Academy.
