Fort Smith officials ask community to steer clear of flood barrier assembly

FORT SMITH -- Fort Smith Police Department officials ask motorists and pedestrians to stay away from a dangerous stretch of Riverfront Drive as crews work to hold back flooding.

Crews are assembling a barrier to control flooding along Riverfront from Garrison Avenue to Midland Boulevard, officials said in an email.

The assembly presents a danger to onlookers, and officials ask people to stay out of the area to help prevent injury.

Officers will issue citations, if necessary, officials said.
