Girls Newcomer of the Year
CHLOE THOMPSON
SCHOOL Bentonville West
CLASS Freshman
THE SCOOP Made an immediate impact on the Bentonville West team as a freshman. ... In her first state swim competition, Thompson finished second in the 200 free (1:54.53) and second in the 500 free (5:06.32). ... Also swam legs on the fourth place 200 freestyle relay and the fifth-place 400 freestyle relay. ... Thompson helped the Wolverines to a fifth-place finish in the team standings. ... Thompson is 5-foot-10, giving her a longer reach in the water than a shorter swimmer.
DID YOU KNOW Thompson literally took to the water from the first time she attended a swim lesson at the age of three. She swam the length of the pool that first day and has been involved in competitive swimming basically ever since then. She has focused only on swimming the past two years. In her spare time, she likes to go fly fishing but hasn't learned to tie her own flies yet.
QUOTABLE "Distance races are just something that I am better at, and I like it. It's more fun for me because I'm better at endurance. I train by swimming a lot of yardage and working on my pacing. I tried other sports over the years like basketball and volleyball, but I just love swimming."
