SPRINGDALE -- A teenager died early Friday morning in the second shooting this year and the third in just over four months in Springdale.

A 15-year-old boy died at Northwest Medical Center from a gunshot wound after a couple of juveniles brought the boy to the emergency room about 5:30 a.m., according to a news release from the Springdale Police Department. The boy's body was sent for autopsy at the Arkansas State Crime Lab by the Washington County Coroner's Office.

The juveniles who took the wounded boy to the hospital remained there until officers arrived.

In the other shooting in Springdale this year, Kevin Bugasto Velez, 26, of Springdale on March 7 pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder in the death of Sanjuana Perez-Ostiguin, 29, of Springdale.

Perez-Ostiguin's body was found in the early morning hours of Jan. 20 in the westbound lane of the Don Tyson Parkway near George Anderson Road.

Velez is being held in the Washington County Jail in lieu of a $250,000 bond.

And Anjel Antonio Torres, 18, of Springdale pleaded not guilty Jan. 9 to charges of first-degree murder and engaging in a continuing criminal gang, organization or enterprise.

Police found the body of Javier Nicolas-Rodriguez, 19, of Bethel Heights about 3 a.m. Dec. 6 in a car crashed in the driveway at 1659 Pioneer St., in the northeast part of Springdale.

Torres fled to California, and he was arrested Dec. 9 in Barstow. Torres was returned to Arkansas on Dec. 26.

Another man, Jose Mendoza, also 18, is charged with helping Torres elude police. Mendoza was arrested, along with Torres, in California after police traced his cellphone.
