FAYETTEVILLE — Washington County rescue personnel were searching for the body of a man reported to have fallen from a boat into Beaver Lake late Tuesday afternoon.

John Luther, the county’s emergency services director, said search and rescue personnel from his office, the Sheriff’s Office and dive team, and divers from the Nob Hill Volunteer Fire Department were all involved in the search effort. Central Emergency Medical Services personnel were also at the scene, Luther said.

“We had a report from witnesses who said they saw a man fall from a boat into the water,” Luther said. “We haven’t recovered a body.”

The search was centered around the area of the War Eagle Blacktop Road access to the lake, Luther said.

Kelly Cantrell, public information officer with the Sheriff’s Office, said the initial report was received around 5:40 p.m. Cantrell said Arkansas Game & Fish personnel were also participating in the search and rescue effort.

Cantrell said that as of 8 p.m. the search was continuing.

“Divers are in the water and sonar equipment is being used as well to try and locate the victim,” Cantrell said.
