FAYETTEVILLE — Police say a suspect in a homicide was arrested without incident Friday morning at a Springdale apartment complex.

Springdale police went to the Applegate Apartment complex at Park and Caudle streets about 7:15 a.m. based on information that Dekota Harvey was in one of the apartments. Harvey surrendered to police about 10:30 a.m., police said.

According to Lt. Jeff Taylor, public information officer for the Springdale Police Department, Springdale police and Fayetteville police were searching for Harvey since the shooting Thursday night.

Springdale police received information Harvey was in the apartment complex and after arriving in the area stopped a vehicle going into the complex. Taylor said the driver confirmed Harvey was in an apartment and police tried to call Harvey. After 30 or 40 minutes of calling, Harvey answered the phone and after some time talking with investigators he surrendered. No one else was in the apartment at the time, Taylor said.

Taylor said some of the nearby apartments were evacuated as a precaution. He said schools in the area were notified and place on “alert” status. Jones elementary is just south of the complex. Taylor said alert status means classes continue as normal but students are kept indoors.

Fayetteville police said Harvey, 22, was wanted in connection with a Thursday night shooting that left one person dead and a second hospitalized.

The shooting happened in the 900 block of North Leverett Avenue, according to police. Officers were called to a report of a disturbance in the area at 9:12 p.m. An ambulance was dispatched to the area at 9:16 p.m.
