BENTONVILLE -- A man was shot Wednesday by Benton County Sheriff's Office deputies, according to Sgt. Shannon Jenkins.

Deputies went to West Mountain Road near Decatur on a call and encountered Hasten Merworth, said Jenkins, the spokeswoman for the Sheriff's Office. Deputies fired their weapons, and Merworth was injured, Jenkins said.

Merworth was taken to a hospital, Jenkins said.

Jenkins said Merworth will face criminal charges in connection with the call and shooting.

No deputies were injured in the shooting.

The incident is being investigated by the Sheriff's Office and Arkansas State Police.

Benton County Prosecutor Nathan Smith went to the scene. Smith said his office will review the State Police's findings.

No further details were available.
