Call goes out to word nerds

The word-a-day website Wordsmith.org turns 25 years old Thursday.

To celebrate, the Seattle-based site is holding four contests for word nerds, with prizes that include all-expense-paid trips to the headquarters of the Oxford English Dictionary in Oxford, England, or to Merriam-Webster's headquarters in Springfield, Mass.

Word lovers can compete by submitting their original work(s) in these categories: limerick, anagram, pangram and/or coin-a-word. The rules are on the website wordsmith.org/25years.

Entries will be judged by linguists and lexicographers, including Richard Lederer, Steve Benko, Erin McKean, Will Shortz, Ben Zimmer, Lauren Gawne, Martha Barnette, Gretchen McCullouch, Jesse Sheidlower, Joan H. Hall, Steve Kleinedler, Peter Sokolowski and Kory Stamper.

Read their credits and contest rules at wordsmith.org/25years.

The deadline for submissions is March 30.
