Hargis wins Prairie Grove School Board runoff election

Matt Hargis will join the Prairie Grove School Board after winning a runoff election Tuesday.

Hargis received 123 votes (57%) to Brian Walker's 91 votes (43%) in the race for the board's Position 3 seat, according to unofficial results from the Washington County Election Commission.

Turnout represented 3% of eligible voters.

Hargis' term is for five years. He will replace Jerry Coyle, who opted not to run after 10 years on the board.

Hargis and Walker were the top two vote-getters in a three-way race in the May 21 election. Hargis received 119 votes, or 49.8% of the total votes cast, in that election.

Hargis, 39, is senior associate director for recruitment in the University of Arkansas' Office of Admissions. Walker, 51, is vice president of sales for Pace Industries.
