SPRINGDALE -- Police say two Springdale convenience stores were operating illegal gambling operations.

The Springdale Police Department searched Kings Korner, 2808 W, Huntsville Ave. and Kings Xpress, 2513 N. Thompson St., this morning following a joint investigation with Arkansas Alcohol Beverage Control.

The businesses' owners continued to profit from illegal slot machines in their stores even after multiple warnings that the operations violated Arkansas law, according to the release.

The department received a call in April about a robbery in relation to gambling at the stores. The victim claimed he was followed home and robbed after winning a large amount of cash at Kings Korner, according to the release.

The investigation found that Kings Korner allowed people to play casino-style slot machines in a separate room during business hours.

People used cash to play on the machines and would turn in tickets at the store register for cash, according to the release.

The case is still under investigation.
