The president's honor roll is reserved for students who earn A's in all of their courses for a perfect 4.0 grade-point average. At least 12 credit hours must be completed successfully during the semester to be included on the president's honor roll.
State Technical College of Missouri
Canaan Silcox of Bentonville has been named to the dean's list for the fall semester at State Technical College of Missouri.To be placed on the dean's list, a full-time student must earn a semester grade point average between 3.5 and 4.0 on a 4-point scale.
George Junior High School
Selected from thousands of entries nationwide, George Junior High School in Springdale, teacher Robert Beard and his eighth- and ninth-grade students, has been named the Arkansas state winner in the Samsung Solve for Tomorrow Contest for its proposed plan to encourage childhood vaccinations.
The Samsung Solve for Tomorrow Contest encourages teachers and students to solve real-world issues in their community using classroom skills in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM).
George Junior High School is among the nation's 50 state winners and will receive $20,000 in technology for its achievement. The school will also receive a Samsung video kit to create and submit a three-minute video that showcases their project development and how it addresses the issue, in the quest to advance to the next phase of the contest and win additional prizes and educational opportunities.
Currently, only 75 percent of children in Arkansas are up-to-date on their childhood vaccinations. Last year, there were 2,951 confirmed cases of mumps in Arkansas, with the local county having the most. These could have been prevented with vaccines. The students found that one reason parents do not vaccinate their children is because of the fear and anxiety their child goes through receiving the shots.
Using 360-degree cameras and editing software they will create a series of 360 videos that a child will watch using a VR headset while they are receiving their vaccination to reduce anxiety.
All 50 state winners will work on their projects and submit their three-minute video in hopes of advancing in the contest's remaining phases:
National finalists: Ten national finalists will be selected to attend a Pitch Event in the spring where they will present their project to a panel of judges. For achieving national finalist status, seven schools will receive a $50,000 Samsung technology package. The other three will progress to the national winner stage.
National grand prize winners: Three national winners will be selected, and each will receive a $100,000 Samsung technology package.
Community Choice Award: The general public will elect one winner from the 10 national finalists who will be eligible to win an additional $10,000 Samsung technology package.

The National Association of ESEA State Program Administrators have announced that Lavaca Middle School from Lavaca has been named a National ESEA Distinguished School by the state education agency in Arkansas. Arkansas Tech University
Arkansas Tech University has announced its Dean's List for undergraduate students on its Russellville campus for the fall 2018 semester.
A student must achieve a 3.5 grade point average or higher and complete at least 12 hours of college-level coursework to be named to the Dean's List.
