Texas-Arlington broke open a close game in the final 10 minutes of the first half to defeat the University of Arkansas at Little Rock at the College Park Center in Arlington, Texas.

Edric Dennis led the Mavericks with 32 points, and Texas-Arlington (8-11, 4-2 Sun Belt) made 34 of 39 free-throw attempts on their way to a fourth consecutive victory.

Markquis Nowell led the Trojans (7-12, 2-4) with 21 points, going 8 of 13 from the floor and 4 of 7 from three-point range. Rayjon Tucker scored 10 of his 15 points in the second half. Kamani Johnson came up with 11 points and seven rebounds.

The Trojans never led, but a three-pointer by Tucker at the 15:19 mark of the first half tied the game at 11-11. Texas-Arlington led 49-38 at the half.

The Trojans got as close as 72-65 with 3:05 remaining.

Texas-Arlington finished 21 of 44 (47.7 percent) from the floor while the Trojans were 24 of 54 (44.4 percent).

ARKANSAS STATE 64

Texas State scored 30 consecutive points midway through the contest to knock off the Red Wolves in San Marcos, Texas.

Nijal Pearson scored 29 points and pulled down 11 rebounds for the Bobcats (16-3, 5-1 Sun Belt), who trailed the Red Wolves 32-22 with 2:09 left in the first half.

Texas State scored the final 10 points of the first half and the first 20 points of the second half. Arkansas State University's first points of the second half did not come until the 12:48 mark.

Ty Cockfield paced the Red Wolves (8-11, 2-4) with 21 points and four assists. He was 6 of 15 from the floor and 7 of 9 from the free-throw line. Marquis Eaton added 12 points, and Tristin Walley led Arkansas State with eight rebounds.

The Bobcats limited Arkansas State to 39 percent (22 of 57) from the floor and 31 percent (8 of 26) from three-point range. Texas State shot 43 percent (22 of 52) overall and 39 percent (7 of 18) on three-pointers.

Arkansas State suffered its third consecutive loss.

NICHOLLS STATE 68

Hayden Koval scored 20 points, grabbed 8 rebounds and blocked 6 shots as the Bears scored seven of the final nine points to post a victory over the Colonels at the Farris Center in Conway.

The Bears (9-10, 4-2) hit 29 of 56 shots from the floor to earn their third consecutive victory and improve to 6-1 on their home court. Tied at 65-65 with 2:40 remaining, the Bears took the lead for good on a free throw by DeAndre Jones.

Nicholls State guard Gavin Peppers knocked down 7 of 8 three-point attempts to finish with a game-high 26 points.

UCA led 30-28 at the half.

Eddy Kayouloud hit 6 of 9 shots and finished with 16 points for the Bears.

Nicholls State (10-9, 3-3) held a 40-34 advantage on the boards, including 12-5 on the offensive end, but hit on 23 of 62 shots for 37.1 percent.

SOUTHERN UNIVERSITY 69,

ARKANSAS-PINE BLUFF 67, OT

Sidney Umude hit two free throws with no time remaining in overtime to lift the Jaguars over the Golden Lions at the F.G. Clark Activity Center in Baton Rouge.

Southern (2-15, 1-4) won for the first time since Nov. 27 -- a 74-65 victory over Wiley College (Texas) -- ending a nine-game losing skid.

The loss ended the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff's three-game winning streak.

Umude, who led his team with 22 points, grabbed a rebound and was fouled attempting a putback as time expired.

Southern held a 41-25 lead at the half, but the Golden Lions managed to tie the game at 60-60 at the end of regulation behind a 29-point effort from Martaveous McKnight. His jumper with 1:35 remaining was the last points of regulation.

UAPB (6-11, 3-1) held a 67-65 lead in the overtime before the Jaguars scored the final four points.

SUN BELT WOMEN

TEXAS STATE 85,

ARKANSAS STATE 62

Texas State jumped out to a 13-0 advantage on its way to an easy victory over Arkansas State at the First National Bank Arena in Jonesboro.

Senior guard Toshua Leavitt hit 7 three-pointers and finished with 31 points, 4 assists and 5 steals as the Bobcats (9-9, 4-2) stopped a two-game losing skid.

Arkansas State (8-8, 2-4) dropped its third consecutive game.

Leavitt, who was 12-of-21 shooting overall and 7 of 13 on three-point attempts, scored seven of the Bobcats' first 13 points. ASU did not score until the 5:08 mark of the first quarter when Akasha Westbrook hit a layup.

Texas State increased its lead to 21-2 with 3:08 left in the first quarter. The Bobcats led 23-7 at the first break, and 41-21 at the half.

Jordan Elder led the Red Wolves with 12 points while Payton Tennison added 10.

Texas State enjoyed a 41-25 advantage on the boards and held Arkansas State to 21-of-53 (39.6 percent) shooting while Texas State made 36 of 69 shots for 52.2 percent.

NICHOLLS STATE 64,

CENTRAL ARKANSAS 60

Cassidy Barrios scored 25 points and grabbed eight rebounds as the Colonels overcame a one-point deficit to start the fourth quarter to defeat the Sugar Bears at the Farris Center in Conway.

The University of Central Arkansas led 42-41 to start the fourth quarter, but a three-pointer from Tykeria Williams 15 seconds into the period put Nicholls on top for good.

Kamry Orr paced UCA (6-9, 1-4) with 14 points and three assists. Taylor Sells and Antonija Bozic each added 13 points for the Sugar Bears.

Barrios hit 8 of 12 shots from the floor and was 9 of 10 from the free-throw line for Nicholls State (9-8, 3-2).

The teams were tied 27-27 at the half.

Central Arkansas was 23 of 59 (39 percent) from the floor while Nicholls State was 19 of 45 (42.2 percent).

Southern University scored the first 11 points and went on to rout the Golden Lions in the F.G. Clark Activity Center in Baton Rouge.

Senior Courtney Parson scored 14 points and came up with 6 of her team's 23 steals as the Jaguars (8-8, 4-1) claimed their fourth consecutive victory.

Southern led 15-3 after one quarter and 32-13 at the half.

UAPB (3-8, 0-4) suffered its third consecutive loss.

Aiya El Hassan led UAPB with 10 points.

Southern hit 26 of 55 (47.3 percent) of its field-goal attempts while UAPB was held to 12 of 43 (27.9 percent) from the floor.

UAPB was guilty of 34 turnovers compared to 21 for Southern.
