Where I live: We live in the Gustave Bruno Kleinschmidt House, a 1907 Colonial Revival, located in the Pettaway Neighborhood. My husband, Cecil, and I are raising our three children in my childhood home, which we bought from my parents after my husband's military retirement.

Occupation: Currently, I am a parent mentor for The Center for Exceptional Families. I work with families to improve educational opportunities for students with disabilities.

My favorite space: Besides our fully functional pocket doors and our four season sun room, our historic building marker from the Quapaw Quarter Association reigns supreme.

Why? The marker is a permanent reminder of our collaborative work with Arkansas Historic Preservation Program, CM Construction and Amber Jones Historic Tax Credit Consultant. Before we started our renovation, we had no clue about historic preservation and what it entailed. Since our house is not located in a historic district, we were ecstatic that our home was selected for the National Register of Historic Places. Most importantly, we were able to preserve one of the last standing Colonial Revivals in Pettaway, a neighborhood that was neglected for years due to [the construction of] Interstate I-630, uncover the history of Gustave Bruno Kleinschmidt, and preserve our home that my parents bought in the '80s for future generations.
