BASEBALL

Southern Arkansas picked to win GAC

Southern Arkansas University, which won its fifth Great American Conference tournament and made the NCAA Central Regional, was picked to win the GAC on Tuesday by the league's coaches.

The Muleriders received seven of 12 first-place votes. Picked to finish second was Oklahoma Baptist, which received three first-place votes. The University of Arkansas at Monticello was picked third and had two first-place votes.

In order, the other picks were Arkansas Tech University, Henderson State University, Southwestern Oklahoma State, Southeastern Oklahoma State, Northwestern Oklahoma State, Ouachita Baptist University, Southern Nazarene and East Central (Okla.).

SAU top pick in GAC

Southern Arkansas University, which advanced to the NCAA Division II national tournament twice in the past three years, was picked to win the Great American Conference by the league's coaches on Tuesday.

The Lady Muleriders received 11 first-place votes after going 60-11 in 2018. They return a pair of All-Americans in pitcher Victoria Taylor and third baseman Faith Otts. Taylor posted a 33-1 record with a 1.34 ERA and 243 strikeouts. Otts hit .353 with 15 home runs and 69 RBI. She ranked second in the GAC in RBI and hits.

Arkansas Tech University was picked second after advancing to the NCAA Regionals for the third time in four seasons.

Harding University, Henderson State University and Southeastern Oklahoma State were picked third through fifth, followed by Southern Nazarene, East Central (Okla.), Ouachita Baptist, Northwestern Oklahoma State, Oklahoma Baptist, the University of Arkansas at Monticello and Southwestern Oklahoma State.
