ALMA 62, LITLE ROCK CHRISTIAN 57

ALMA -- Taking advantage of perfect shooting from the free-throw line in the game's final 40.9 seconds, Alma held off Little Rock Christian for a 62-57 victory on the Airedales' home court Friday night.

"We've been like that all year," Alma Coach Stan Flenor said. "This team has been good on free throws throughout the season."

It was an early season showdown between the two teams that were undefeated in conference play. With the victory, Alma (12-1, 3-0 5A-West) has the early edge. Little Rock Christian (7-8, 2-1) falls a game behind.

The Airedales led by nine after one quarter, then outscored the Warriors by one in the second quarter for a 32-27 edge at the half.

Alma had a two-point lead going into the final quarter, then had to hold off the Warriors in the end.

"We just found a way tonight," Flenor said. "We didn't shoot it great, but we kept grinding on defense. Little Rock Christian played real well, but we had some guys off the bench that came in and gave us good minutes."

With five minutes to play, Little Rock Christian took its first lead at 49-48. Little Rock Christian scored two more baskets to take a 53-50 lead with 2:45 left.

Alma's Cejay Mann hit a field goal to pull the Airedales within one, then he made four free throws to put Alma up 56-53. The Warriors narrowed the lead to one when Cortez Finley hit a field goal with 29 second left.

Alma put the game away by hitting six consecutive free throws to lead 61-55 with 9.6 seconds left.

Mann led all scorers with 23 points while Bobby Winfrey added 13. Luke Grawer led Little Rock Christian with 21 while Finley chipped in 11.
