ROGERS -- The principal of the School District's alternative education school intends to resign this summer after one year in the position.

The School Board approved Karen Steen's resignation at its meeting last week. Steen did not return a text message and a phone message seeking comment.

Steen began as the principal of the Crossroads school last summer following 10 years as the first principal of Heritage High School. Her decision to accept the Crossroads job was the result of many conversations within the district over the course of several weeks, she said last year.

Crossroads, located in downtown Rogers, serves middle and high school students. It offers a smaller environment for those who struggle in the larger traditional high schools.

Steen was an assistant principal at Bentonville High School when she was named Heritage's principal in 2007, one year before the school opened. She previously worked for schools in Las Vegas.

The district began advertising the Crossroads principal job late last month. The minimum salary is listed as $85,326 on the district's website.
