Siloam Springs woman placed on probation for theft

BENTONVILLE -- A Siloam Springs woman admitted earlier this week to stealing thousands of dollars from a group she once led.

Tiffany Ione Wright, 38, pleaded guilty Tuesday to theft of property and fraudulent use of a credit card.

She was arrested Sept. 7.

Wright was the president of the Siloam Springs Heritage League, according to a probable cause affidavit.

Cara Whorton, the league's vice president, and Lorena Rovira, the group's treasurer, reported to Siloam Springs police Wright had stolen money from the organization's bank account. The two women estimated at the time of the report Wright had taken between $6,000 and $7,000, according to the affidavit.

Whorton and Rovira said they confronted Wright about the missing money, and she claimed it was an accident and vowed to repay the money, according to court documents. They were also concerned Wright had collected from sponsors and kept the money, according to the affidavit.

Wright was interviewed by police and admitted using the Heritage League's debit card to pay her personal Amazon credit card bill, according to the affidavit. She also admitted there were times she collected cash from fundraisers and kept the money, the affidavit states.

Benton County Circuit Judge Robin Green placed Wright on state supervised probation for eight years.

She was ordered to pay $8,065 in victim restitution and $1,170 in court associated costs.
