BENTONVILLE -- Bentonville Police Chief Jon Simpson issued a warning Tuesday concerning an impersonation of a police officer scam.

Someone will call and identify himself as Lt. Kenny King with the Bentonville Police Department, according to a news release. The caller accuses the victim of harassing an underage female and offers to make any criminal charges go away if the victim sends money to a specific cash application, according to Simpson's news release.

A Lt. Kenny King doesn't work for the department, and Simpson urged anyone who receives such a call to notify his local law enforcement agency, according to the release.

Most of the victims have been in the Fort Smith and Lowell areas, according to the release.
