The Arkansas Department of Health has identified three confirmed cases and one suspected case of the mumps on the campus of the University of Arkansas, according to a release from the department.

ADH is working with the university to alert students and staff who may have had contact with the confirmed cases.

The department is recommending vaccination to those who have been in contact with the cases and those on-campus with Measles Mumps Rubella (MMR) vaccination exemptions.

MMR vaccines are available at the Washington County Local Health Unit and many local doctor's offices and pharmacies, according to the release.

In 2016 and 2017, Arkansas experienced the second-largest mumps outbreak in the United States in the last 30 years. Nearly 3,000 mumps cases were identified during that outbreak, according to the state Department of Health.
