Art fans gazed Feb. 1 at the works of Kehinde Wiley and Amy Sherald, the artists who painted the official portraits of former President Barack and first lady Michelle Obama, respectively.
Then they moved on to admire Arkansan Delita Martin's The Dinner Table installation of about 200 portraits on dinner plates.
In all, 37 artists are represented in "On Their Own Terms," an exhibit of art by black Americans that will be open to the public through March 10 at the Brad Cushman Gallery and Small Art Gallery at the Wingate Center of Art + Design at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.
The Feb. 1 event was the public reception. Guests included University of Arkansas at Little Rock Chancellor Andrew Rogerson and his wife, Janessa, UALR men's head basketball coach Darrell Walker and his wife, Lisa, several of the artists -- including Martin -- as well as a host of UALR supporters, students and art lovers.
The Walkers loaned several pieces of art from their private collection.
The exhibit is open from 9 a.m.- 5 p.m. Monday-Friday, 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday and 2-5 p.m Sunday.
