FAYETTEVILLE -- Officers escorted the body of Stephen Carr across Fayetteville in a procession on the way to the fallen officer's funeral at Bud Walton Arena on Thursday.

Fayetteville officer Stephen Carr, 27, was killed late Saturday while sitting in his patrol vehicle in the parking lot behind the police station.

At least 1,000 people filled Dickson Street from West to Campbell avenues in front of the Walton Arts Center to honor the fallen officer during a candlelight vigil on Tuesday night.
