Park service, Fort Smith group to team

FORT SMITH -- The National Park Service River, Trail, and Conservation Assistance Program will work with the Frontier Metropolitan Planning Organization in Fort Smith to provide input in the development of a design plan for regional trails, public areas and facilities, and cultural and historical resources.

The organizations will begin with a public workshop at the Riverfront Pavilion at 100 N. B Street in Fort Smith at 5:30 p.m. Jan. 13, according to a news release from the Frontier Metropolitan Planning Organization Director Reese Brewer.

Those who attend the workshop will be able to participate in shaping expectations, creative themes, building partnerships, and achieving a unified vision for the future of the region's recreational, cultural and historical assets.

The Frontier Metropolitan Planning Organization is the regional transportation planning organization for the Fort Smith urban area funded by the U.S. Department of Transportation through the Arkansas and Oklahoma Departments of Transportation. The Frontier planning area is defined as the area projected to become urbanized within a two-decade period in western Arkansas and eastern Oklahoma.
