FAYETTEVILLE -- Some high school students will spend part of Thursday and Friday in makeshift housing to raise money for students and families in need.
The Fayetteville High School student council scheduled the 21st annual homeless vigil for 5-11 p.m. Thursday and 5-7 a.m. Friday on the north side of the school's campus along Bulldog Boulevard.
Participating students will collect monetary donations and nonperishable food items for Families in Transition, a program that assists students and their families.
Last year's vigil raised about $10,000, according to Alan Wilbourn, school district spokesman.
