HOT SPRINGS -- More than 40,000 Garland County residents will be receiving notices of vehicle value changes that will increase their personal property taxes due in 2020, the county said in a news release.
Garland County Assessor Shannon Sharp said car and light truck values that the Arkansas Assessment Coordination Department provided for 2019 were incorrect, affecting personal property assessments statewide. Change in value notices will be mailed out next week.
Monday is the last day to schedule a 2019 property tax hearing before the Garland County Board of Equalization, but Sharp said any of the 41,456 affected county residents have the right to appeal the value change within 10 days of receiving their notices.
She said the state told county assessors a few days ago that they had been given incorrect values.
"I hate that this happened, but it was out of my control," she said. "We're trying to get this information out to the public and the problem corrected as soon as possible."

The new vehicle values will be on 2019 tax bills that the county collector's office will send out in February. Payments are due by October 2020.
