NWA Letters to the Editor

Ideas regarding solutions after shootings all wrong

He's not welcome here (El Paso). He's not my president. His rhetoric caused these tragedies.

We've got to take away guns. Assault weapons should not be owned by anyone but police and military.

Hmmm, funny. I haven't heard a word about the crazy SOBs who did these things. Just the guns.

Same with the other crazies who have done the other ones. All crazies. You can't fix crazy.

And now you want to "red flag" them before they can buy a gun. Just how are you going to pick out the crazies? I guess doctors will have to report them just like child abuse. But, what about their patient confidentiality rights? Oh, wait, that one guy's mom could have reported him. Well, no, probably not.

Nobody else will either, because they won't want to get involved. So, set up a toll-free anonymous number for people like you to report people like me. No, wait, that'll cost too much money. You can't send out the FBI to check every report. Hmmm, not really so funny.

In your Aug. 6 paper were eight letters to the editor. Six of them were about gun violence and the president. One suggested that I am in partnership with racism, bigotry and white supremacy. Another suggested that my life membership in the NRA is funding my Republican party.

Hmmm, funny. I haven't heard a word about how my permanent and total disability, which occurred due to my military service, has given me a very down-to-earth perspective on things. How many of you liberal Democrats out there have any military service? How many of you volunteered at age 17?

How many of you finished your military career without being old enough to buy beer or vote?

Don't talk to me about open borders and gun control. If you actually had the guts, you'd want to fight. But you don't. If you actually had the guts you'd come after us. Why wait for the law to change? Go get them. Yeah, sure.

What have you personally done to ensure the domestic tranquility of the nation. Did you help people? Did you serve man in some capacity? Or is all you've done is cry about something. I was just a lowly deputy sheriff.

But keep up the good work. You're ensuring our victory. Thanks. I mean that.

Letter writer should become next governor

Thank you to Kathy Sparks for her well-written Aug. 15 letter.

No one is better equipped than I am to determine the best time for me to have a baby, certainly not a group of strangers who don't know me, my circumstances, my health, my beliefs.

I am a property owner, taxpayer, volunteer and all-around good citizen of Springdale.

Does this mean that I am not welcome in Springdale because it is an "anti-abortion" city?

Kathy, please run for governor! We need your mind.

Ask Thomas Merton what is happening to the nation

In his book The Logic of God, Ravi Zacharias quotes Thomas Merton, "who observed that man is not at peace with his fellow man because he is not at peace with himself, and he is not at peace with himself because he is not at peace with God."

Doesn't that explain what is happening in our country?
