BENTONVILLE -- Benton County Circuit Judge John R. Scott has said he'll seek a fourth term on the bench.

Scott, who has served as a 19th Judicial District judge since Oct. 1, 2001, presides over Division 4. He hears civil, domestic relations and probate cases.

"I want to help people in their times of crises and conflict, and I strive for all litigants to understand the decisions that I make in the courtroom," Scott said. "I hope to be able to continue my service as circuit judge for Benton County."

Scott, 68, of Rogers received his bachelor's degree and law degree from the University of Arkansas.

He was in private practice from 1978 until 2001 in Rogers. Gov. Mike Huckabee appointed Scott to complete the unexpired term of Judge Don Huffman when he retired.

Scott was elected in 2002, and re-elected in 2008 and 2014.

He has served as the administrative judge for the district and on the board of directors of the Arkansas Judicial Council and on the Arkansas Supreme Court Child Support Committee.

Scott is a member of the Arkansas Bar Association, and a member and past president of the Benton County Bar Association. He previously served as chairman of the Rogers Airport Commission.

Gov. Asa Hutchinson appointed Scott in 2019 to serve as a special justice on the Arkansas Supreme Court.

Scott received the Arkansas Trial Lawyers Association Outstanding Trial Judge Award in 2013 and the Arkansas Bar Association Jurist of the Year Award in 2015.

Elections in Arkansas for circuit judges are nonpartisan. The 2020 election will be March 3. Runoffs will be on the general election ballot in November.

Circuit judges serve six-year terms and are paid $168,096 a year.
