ROGERS -- The city on Tuesday took the final step to accept a grant to help construct a trail.

The city has received the $966,000 grant from the Walton Family Foundation for work on the Northern Loop trail, said Lance Jobe, city engineer. The City Council's decision Tuesday officially amended the city's budget to include the grant.

Other action

Rogers’ City Council met Tuesday and accepted:

• The final plat of Magnolia Farms.

• The final plat of Chandler Run subdivision, phase 3.

• The final plat of Pine Meadows, phase 5.

Construction of the loop has started and should be completed by fall, Jobe said.

The grant is matching, meaning the city is also contributing $966,000.

"The idea is to connect the Razorback Greenway to downtown," said Jeremy Pate, senior program officer at the Walton Family Foundation.

The trail will connect to Railyard Park, formerly Frisco Park, in downtown. Railyard Park is set to be renovated, a project voters approved in August as part of the $299.5 million bond issue. The Walton Family Foundation gave the city an $805,668 grant for design services in 2017. The Razorback Greenway is a more than 36-mile trail extending from Bella Vista to Fayetteville.

The grant will help pay for the last phase of the 7-mile loop runing near the Pinnacle Hills Promenade mall in Rogers, Pate said. The project fits into the foundation's plans to revitalize downtowns and provide an alternate transportation option. The foundation has been working with the city on the project since the fall, Pate said.

The council also approved a $14,400 grant from the state for an electronic loading cot for an ambulance. The Fire Department applies for the grant each year, Fire Chief Tom Jenkins said.

The council also voted, at the request of Louisiana Properties, to rezone land at 1623 and 1625 S. Dixieland Road from agricultural and neighborhood residential to residential multifamily and to rezone 3712 S. Pinnacle Hills Parkway from residential office to uptown commercial at the request of PHP LLC.
