Hooks snap Naturals’ winning streak

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Osvaldo Duarte homered and had four hits, and Tyler Ivey allowed just three hits over five innings as the Corpus Christi Hooks beat the Northwest Arkansas Naturals 12-3 on Tuesday. The Naturals saw their five-game winning streak come to an end with the loss.

Ivey (2-0) allowed one run while striking out seven and walking one to pick up the win.

Corpus Christi had a pair of big innings in the blowout victory, scoring four runs in the third inning and six in the eighth.

In the third, Stephen Wrenn hit an RBI single and Wrenn scored on a stolen base and Abraham Toro scored on a single, while J.J. Matijevic hit a two-run home run and Duarte hit a solo home run in the eighth.

Ofreidy Gomez (1-1) went three innings, allowing four runs and five hits in the Texas League game. He also struck out one and walked two.

For the Naturals, Khalil Lee homered and singled, scoring a pair of runs while also driving home a couple.

FRISCO 1, ARKANSAS 0

Pedro Payano struck out nine hitters over five innings, leading the Frisco RoughRiders over the Arkansas Travelers in a 1-0 win on Tuesday in North Little Rock.

Payano (2-0) walked two to pick up the win.

The game’s only run was scored in the top of the first inning. After hitting a double with two outs, Juremi Profar scored on a single by Andretty Cordero.

Anthony Misiewicz (0-2) went nine innings, allowing one run and six hits while striking out nine in the Texas League game.

The Travelers were held scoreless for the second time this season, while the RoughRiders’ staff recorded their second shutout of the year.

MIDLAND 4, TULSA 0

Parker Dunshee allowed just four hits over seven innings, leading the Midland RockHounds over the Tulsa Drillers in a 4-0 win on Monday in Midland, Texas.

Dunshee (1-2) struck out six and walked two to get the win.

Up 1-0 in the fourth, Midland added to its lead when Kevin Merrell hit an RBI single, scoring Mikey White.

The RockHounds later tacked on a run in both the seventh and eighth innings. In the seventh, Chase Calabuig hit an RBI single, while Nate Mondou hit a sacrifice fly, scoring Greg Deichmann in the eighth.

Dustin May (1-1) went five innings, allowing two runs and three hits in the Texas League game. He also struck out three and walked two.

The Drillers were held off the scoreboard for the second time this season, while the RockHounds’ staff recorded their third shutout of the year.

AMARILLO 9, CARDINALS 6

Edward Olivares hit a two-run double in the fifth inning, leading the Amarillo Sod Poodles to a 9-6 win over the Springfield Cardinals on Tuesday in Springfield, Mo.

The double by Olivares capped a three-run inning and gave the Sod Poodles an 8-6 lead after Chris Baker hit an RBI single earlier in the inning.

The Sod Poodles tacked on another run in the ninth when Jorge Ona scored on an error.

Kyle McGrath (1-0) got the win with two innings of scoreless, one-hit relief while Springfield starter Casey Meisner (0-2) took the loss in the Texas League game.
