B.A.C.A.

The Northwest Chapter of Bikers Against Child Abuse will meet at 1:30 p.m. April 14 in the conference center of the Bass Pro Shop (formerly Cabela's), 2300 Promenade Blvd. in Rogers.

All chapter meetings are open to the general public, and anyone interested is invited. All members and supporters must clear an N.C.I.C. background check.

Orchids

Orchid Society of the Ozarks normally meets at 1:30 p.m. on the third Sunday of each month at Northwest Technical Institute, 709 S. Old Missouri Road in Springdale. However, the April meeting will be April 14, a week earlier than usual, to avoid the Easter holiday and the Tulsa show, which is Easter weekend. The May meeting will return to the third Sunday, May 19.

The objective of the society is to stimulate interest in orchids and their culture. Frequent presentations by renowned growers offer education, and quality plants are for sale. Monthly judging displays often include 30 to 40 blooming plants, while monthly raffles offer affordable orchids and supplies for new and experienced growers.

PanCan

The Northwest Arkansas Pancreatic Cancer meeting will be from 2 to 3:30 p.m. April 14 at Circle of Life Hospice, 901 Jones Road in Springdale. The meeting will cover the Cowboy Up Recap and details on the June 9 Paint Arvest Park Purple, June 24 and 25 Advocacy Day in Washington, D.C., and Nov. 3 Purple Stride events.

Cancer

Viviendo con Cancer, a supportive and educational group, is for adult Hispanic patients, caregivers, families and friends coping with any type of cancer. All group communication will be in Spanish. This group will meet from 5:30 to 7 p.m. April 15 at Hope Cancer Resources, 5835 W. Sunset Ave. in Springdale.

Pieces 'N Patches

Pieces 'N Patches quilt group will meet at 10 a.m. April 15 at First Presbyterian Church, 1901 S. 26th St. in Rogers. There will be a workshop utilizing the hunter's star template by Studio 180 Designs. Donna Thomas will be teaching the workshop which was postponed due to weather.

The group meets at 12:30 p.m. on the first Monday of each month for programs and at 10 a.m. on the third Monday for workshops. Visitors are welcome.

Teachers

The Washington County Retired Teachers Association will hold their business meeting at 12:15 p.m. April 15 at Western Sizzlin' in Springdale. Registration begins at 11 a.m., followed by a buffet at 11:30.

Chief meteorologist Dan Skoff with KNWA will present the program.

All members need to return their volunteer hours sheets to be added up for the report to the state. Also, bring items to be donated to the charitable organizations. Members can start paying next year's dues of $20 to the treasurer. All dues need to be paid by the May meeting in order to be included in the membership booklet for next year. A slate of officers for next year will be voted on at this meeting.

SUV

The Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War will meet at 7 p.m. April 15 at Foghorn's Restaurant, 2221 W. Walnut St. in Rogers. Dinner will be at 6 p.m.

The Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War is a fraternal organization dedicated to preserving the history and legacy of the men who fought and worked to save the United States during the Civil War.

Stitched

Stitched With Love is a nonprofit organization formed for the purpose of sewing quilts, hats and pillows for children at Arkansas Children's Hospital. The club will meet at 9:30 a.m. April 16 at Mt. Vernon Presbyterian Church, 1300 N. Davis St. in Pea Ridge. Bring completed quilts and batting scraps to stuff pillows. Also bring scissors, as the group will be cutting batting for new kits. New members are welcome.

Altrusa

Altrusa of Springdale will meet at 5:30 p.m. April 16. The organization is holding its 10th annual fundraiser for Springdale Meals on Wheels at 2 p.m. April 13 at the Elks Club at 4444 Crossover Road in Fayetteville.

Local models will be showing clothing for the Fashion Show and Tea. This event is for all ages, with chances for door prizes and plant sales. Tickets are $25. The Elks Club is a co-sponsor of this event.

The organization is looking for new members who enjoy community volunteering. The club has been in Springdale for 25 years.

Quilt Guild

The Northwest Arkansas Modern Quilt Guild will meet at 6:30 p.m. April 16 at Southside Church of Christ, 919 S. Dixieland Road in Rogers.

Fiber artist Katrinka Booth will be the speaker. Her work is often on display at Rogers Art on the Bricks.

GOP Women

The Benton County Republican Women's Club will meet at noon April 16 at the Pleasant Crossing Golden Corral in Rogers. Networking will begin at 11:30 a.m.

The featured speaker will be Stacey McClure, state director for the office of U.S. Senator John Boozman. McClure will speak about current legislative issues.

Democrats

The Northwest Arkansas Senior Democrats will meet at noon April 16 at Western Sizzlin' in Springdale. Lunch begins at 11:30 a.m. The guest speaker will be Raven Cook, an art history educator at Crystal Bridges with an emphasis on the Africa American History. She is an expert on Africa American history and may be discussing the current controversy over Confederate Monuments on public spaces.

The Ozark Mountains Chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution will meet at 11 a.m. April 18 at Simmons Bank in Rogers. Al Fleming will present a program with his therapy dog.

Flower Society

The Flower, Garden and Nature Society of Northwest Arkansas will welcome Cody George to speak about "Native Plants at Crystal Bridges" at 10 a.m. April 20 at Northwest Technical Institute in their student center, 709 S. Old Missouri Road in Springdale. George will give a synopsis of the garden style of Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art, and he will highlight native plants that are suited for a home garden. George serves as manager of horticulture and grounds operations for the museum, where he maintains a plant collection of over 700 types of plants in the gardens.

BC Dems

Benton County Dems will meet at noon April 22 at the Golden Corral, 2506 W. Pleasant Crossing Drive. Come for lunch and conversation at 11 a.m.

The guest speaker will be Janine A. Parry, professor of political science at the University of Arkansas. Her presentation will be "The Year of the Women: What we know about female voters, candidates and office holders."

Calico Cut Ups

The Calico Cut Ups quilt guild will meet at noon April 22 at Becker Hall in the First United Methodist Church of Bella Vista, 20 Boyce Drive. The meeting kicks off with social time and vendor, internationally known quilt designer and educator, Raijia, from Quilter's Treasure Chest in Rogers. At 1 p.m. there will be an interactive and educational program, "Quilt Detectives: Every Quilt has a Story to Tell," by expert quilt historians and appraisers Alice McElwain and Teresa Howard, who will talk about vintage mystery quilts that have been inherited or found. At 2 p.m. there will be a business meeting and the meeting will conclude with a quilt show-and-tell by guild members.

Guests welcome first time without a fee. After one visit there is a $5 fee. Yearly dues are $25.

Photographers

The Photographic Society of Northwest Arkansas will present "Choosing and Using the Best Tripod for You" with professional photographer Greg Disch. The class will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. April 23 at the PSNWA Gallery & Studio, 207 N.E. Second St. in Bentonville. Disch will explain how to use a tripod for the best photographic results and which tripod is best for various styles of photography. The class is free for PSNWA members or $10 for nonmembers.

Registration is now open for the Mid-America Photography Symposium (MAPSym) May 17-19 in Eureka Springs at the Convention Center. World-renowned photographers from Nikon, Sony, Sigma, etc., will provide workshops and special events for participants. Model shoots, nature photography excursions, software and equipment tutorials and a vendor fair with equipment checkout will be featured, as well as a special reception for the winners of the Ozark Photographic Challenge (ozarkphotochallenge.org; deadline April 26). Garden Club

The Bella Vista Garden Club will meet at 11:30 a.m. April 24 at the Bella Vista Community Church, 75 E. Lancashire Blvd. Lunch will be at 11 a.m. Ryan Neal, Benton County extension agent, will speak on gardening topics. Visitors are welcome to attend.

The club will hold its annual spring plant sale from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. May 4 at Village Waste Water, 380 Bella Vista Way in Bella Vista. There will be more than 1,000 perennials, native plants, shrubs and trees available for sale to the public. Proceeds from the sale fund Bella Vista beautification projects and scholarships for area students majoring in horticulture at Northwest Arkansas colleges and universities.

QUILT

Quilters United in Learning Together will meet at 6:30 p.m. April 25 at St. Thomas Episcopal Church, 2898 S. 48th St. in Springdale.

Quilter Liz Granberg-Jerome will present the program "Adventures with 60-degree Triangle Quilts." She will also teach a workshop on April 26 called "Hexified Panels."

Toastmasters

Fayetteville Toastmasters club offers the skills and confidence needed to effectively express oneself in any situation. Whether you are a professional, student, stay-at-home parent or retiree, Toastmasters is the most efficient, enjoyable and affordable way of gaining great communication and leadership skills. The impromptu section of the meetings will help with delivery of a short "elevator speech" when queried about your company, job or personal interests.
